   Dalhousie University has been involved in VA research since 2010 with the generous support of the Boeing Company. Their work is focused primarily on Visual Text Analytics and Mobile Applications with a multidisciplinary approach focusing on visualization, mining, and human computer interaction. Dalhousie University is a founding member of CANVAC.

   The University of British Columbia is one of Canada’s largest and most prestigious public research and teaching institutions. Located in the Pacific Rim gateway of Vancouver, one of the world’s great cities, and in the Interior city of Kelowna, UBC is a global centre of research and learning. It offers more than 50,000 students a range of innovative undergraduate, graduate and professional programs in the arts, sciences, medicine, law, commerce and other faculties.    OCAD University is the single largest and most comprehensive independent art, design and media university in Canada. At OCAD University we focus on studio-based learning, placing value on creative, aesthetic and technical practice. Students also gain rich theoretical, scientific and historical knowledge. As well as our historical focus on art, design, media and cultural theory, OCAD University bridges these fields, addressing the world’s most compelling challenges in sustainability, social change, health and wellness, and cultural diversity. We do this through cross-disciplinary practice-based research within OCAD University and in concert with industry, not-for-profit, university and college partners, at home and abroad. 
 
 
   The University of Alberta is a premier research and teaching institution and one of the most prestigious large higher education establishments in Canada. Since 2002 the University of Alberta has been home to the Alberta Innovates Centre for Machine Learning (AICML), a true powerhouse for data analytics with more than 100 researchers and graduate students working on knowledge discovery from data.  The AICML is considered among the top research centres in machine learning in the world. Data visualization, visual data mining and interactive visual analytics is one of the foci of the researchers for a wide range of applications.
 
University of Calgary     
   Recently ranked #1 amongst the "young universities" in Canada, the University of Calgary is home for a large number of fundamental and applied visual analytics researchers. Information visualization, human computer interaction, and application engineering of analytics applications are key current strengths and integrate tightly with expertise in a wide spectrum of application areas. Residing in the energy capital of Canada, energy analytics is a key focus of research. Cross-dsciplinary teams are tackling visual analytics challenges in the life sciences, health informatics, sustainability and a broad spectrum of other domains. Analytics and visualization where identified as core strengths by the University of Calgary, leading to substantial new investments in related research.

   The Visual Analytics Research and Development Consortium of Canada (VARDEC) is an industry led consortium with a mandate to develop and commercialize the latest visual analytics applications and technologies. VARDEC brings together major aerospace companies and small-to-medium sized enterprises to develop and transform the latest technical and academic knowledge into practical solutions that will enhance Canada’s global competitiveness and lead to a greater diffusion of the latest in visual analytic technologies and applications.

Centre for Information Visualization & Data-Driven Design (CIV-DDD)

 
   The Centre for Innovation in Information Visualization and Data-Driven Design (CIVDDD) is a research project led by York University in partnership with OCAD University and the University of Toronto and private sector partners to develop the next generation of data discovery, design, analytics and visualization techniques for new computational tools, representational strategies and interfaces.

   Mitacs Inc. is a Canadian nonprofit research organization. Through unique research and training programs, Mitacs is developing the next generation of innovators with vital scientific and business skills.

Vancouver Institute for Visual Analytics (VIVA)

   The Vancouver Institute for Visual Analytics (VIVA) was launched as a joint SFU/UBC Research Institute in 2010 to leverage these institutions’ significant expertise in the field of Visual Analytics (VA). VIVA seeks to develop visual analytics expertise in industry, government, and university organizations in Canada, as well as to promote collaborative VA research and VA education and training.

   The Vancouver Institute for Visual Analytics seeks to leverage its visual analytics expertise to create a self-sustaining, not-for-profit organization that provides value to researchers, educators and member organizations across Canada.
